BASICS FROM NIC'S UNIVERSE
Physical enhancement drugs known as Celebrer were used during a past war to draw out physical strength and reflexes to their utmost limits. Descendants of Celebrer users were born genetically defective and dependent on the drug. Along with enhanced strengths, those born of Celebrer users have a weakness, also known as a "compensation for their power." Nicolas' compensation is his hearing - he was born 100% deaf. Not all Twilights have the same compensation.

History teaches all humans about Twilights and describes them as human-killers with mental deficiencies. Large, strong, monsters.

Eventually, Three Principles were established to free Twilights from slavery and protect them, but they are still constantly mistreated. Most shops won't serve Twilights or allow them inside. They are not allowed to walk on main streets and must travel through alleys or have a higher chance of being beaten or killed. Even waiting outside of an establishment can get them cursed and chased off by humans.

FIRST PRINCIPLE
•Twilights can not intentionally hurt humans.
SECOND PRINCIPLE
•Twilights must obey orders directed to them by humans. Orders that conflict with the First Principle are exceptions.
THIRD PRINCIPLE
•If the situation does not conflict with Principle 1 and 2, a Twilight must defend oneself.

There have been massacres of Twilights by normal humans repeating throughout history, with protesters even attacking women and children because they view them as inhuman. Anti-Twilight violence is generally done publicly and includes brutal abuse, rape, and death. Before the Three Principles were re-established, large anti-Twilight mobs caused riots and massacres at the four gates to the city Ergastulum. Nicolas is one of the only known surviving Twilights from the West Gate.

LIFESPAN
The name "Twilight" stems from their significantly shorter lifespans compared to regular humans (also called Normals), with most not reaching their 30s. Average lifespan is early 30s, with half-Twilights sometimes living a little longer.

IDENTIFICATION TAGS/RANKS
"Tags are usually something used to identify those who die in battle, but what's hanging from their necks has a somewhat different implication. Rather than being used to tell them apart from us, they serve more like a warning: 'Beware of Dog'." --Worick
All Twilights are required to wear dogtags identifying them as Twilights and listing basic information (rank, name, birth date, blood type, where they belong). Due to this, they are also sometimes called "Tag" or "Tagged." A Twilight's rank is determined by the government, indicating their strength class. Higher level Twilights will show their tag as a form of intimidation or challenge so others know what they are up against and can choose to avoid a fight.

Tags monitor the life status of a Twilight through an embedded chip. Once they are deceased, the tag is used to delete their information from the government's management system, and they cease to have records as if they never existed. Bodies are disposed of together in unmarked holes in the ground.

RANKS
A Twilight's strength is measured in 2 categories:
S > A > B > C > D
0 > 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5
The highest rank is S/0. A Twilight can increase their rank if their strength increases or they best a higher rank in combat.

CELEBRER WITHDRAWAL
Twilights rely upon daily doses of Celebrer to manage withdrawal symptoms and will die without it. Symptoms include: dizziness, nausea, palpitations, migraines, hemorrhages, seizures, delusions, and lung and heart trouble.
